ERSS design and superision of a large 126m diameter, 11m depth circular basement in soft marine clay. It consisted of a strut-free diaphragm retaining wall system coupled with capping and two-layer ring beams. Due to its large diameter, the variation of soil stratagraphy, imbalanced load and stress distributon were modelled in 2 and 3D. This system was robust, safe and allowed ease in excavation.
